I often have problems with book 2 in a trilogy. It always seems like the author is spending so much time setting the scene for the third book that they forget they’re supposed to be delivering a story in the second book too.

That applies here. I honestly don’t think I’d have lost much if I just skipped from book 1 to book 3.
